Starting Unfragmented from scratch!


As the sole developer of Unfragmented, I face limitations in various aspects of the game, from story writing and UI design to composing music and coding with the Ren’Py engine. All of the aspects were a development disaster!

I was inexperienced in working with visual novel development as this was my first attempt. After looking at the mess I made, receiving feedback from a conversation I had with a friend earlier this year, and saving the project for later due to the size, I made the final decision!

The final decision…was to start Unfragmented from scratch! While looking over the massive development mess, I scrouged parts of it and used it to rebuild the main foundation of the game. By working with the Obsidian note-taking software, my main focus on the foundation is working on the main story of Unfragmented.

My advice to those who struggle to make visual novels by themselves is to focus on the story you’re writing! Don’t get too technical with the SDKs, the game design, etc. The story is your number one priority! Always use your imagination to visualize the world, characters, and the main storyline!

Feel free to try out the unfinished prototype of Unfragmented. However, please note that this web build comes with a disclaimer. This old build from 2023 lacks backgrounds and character images, offering only an incomplete version of the prologue and the first chapter. After playing this build, please feel free to provide feedback. I will carefully consider your suggestions to improve the project from scratch.
